Common Workplace Injuries
To help you determine if you have suffered from an injury that would qualify for worker’s compensation, here is a brief list of some different types of workplace injuries.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Traumatic brain injuries are devastating injuries that change lives forever. Sadly, this type of injury often isn’t readily apparent right away. To learn more about traumatic brain injuries, please visit our brain injury page.
Back Injuries
Back injuries can be especially damaging because they affect the whole person. Construction jobs or any other jobs involving heavy lifting or repetitive bending motions have a high chance of causing back injuries. Back injuries are often very serious due to the time it takes for back injuries to heal, the expense of surgery and because back injuries affect everything a person does. Serious back injuries can be debilitating resulting in loss of work for an extended period of time. Work activities can also aggravate a prior back injury you may have had, which may be covered by worker’s compensation.
Neck Injuries
Neck injuries can range from simple sprains to spinal cord injuries, which can result in paralysis or death. Neck injuries, like back injuries, tend to affect the whole person as opposed to just isolated areas like injuries to your arms or legs. This means neck injuries, like back injuries, can be particularly debilitating. Some different types of neck injuries include herniated discs, neck fractures/dislocations and spinal cord injuries. Keep in mind that herniated discs can also occur in the back, chest and lumbar areas. Surgery can accompany these injuries resulting in additional time lost at work. This time lost at work can be longer than some injuries because your neck is involved in everything you do. If you sustained any of these injuries on the job, you may be covered by worker’s compensation.
